I have been decluttering lately
There is an ugly sounding word...
Not it's meaning but what it sounds like when you say it.
DE-CLUTTER.
It sounds harsh on the tongue,
and I guess it is fitting since decluttering can be a little harsh
when done properly.
I began this "little project" when I started contemplating the changes that are about the occur in my life.
THE DREADED EMPTY NEST (a surefire hit of a post for the future)
I figured that if my nest was going to be empty..
that at least it could be clean.
Not clean as in antiseptic pine-sol fresh (although that never hurts)
but clean as in devoid of
junk.
And let's face it...wherever there are children....there is junk.
baby furniture
baby appliances
old clothes
blankets
drawings
art projects
painted ceramic do hickeys
old school papers
books
and
TOYS
mountains and mountains and mountains
of toys.
My problem is that I LOVE toys.
I always have and I always will.
I think that we come to earth programmed with specific likes and dislikes
It's like they told my spirit...
"Hey you over there....
yea... you.... the one that is just sitting there all the time...
It's your turn.
Just an FYI.... you you are going to like
photos, fancy lunch treats, graveyards and toys.....a LOT
You will always hate bullies, olives and exercise.
Now go on....
Get outta here."
When my children were born it was such a wonderful excuse to indulge some of my favorite things.
I would spend countless hours wandering the aisles of Target in search of the latest toys.
I would get a rush of adrenaline to find a toy that
My mom who was always my shopping buddy would try to be patient with me,
but would often tell me that she would only go on a shopping excursion if it did NOT include the toy section.
But it always did.
But back to de-cluttering (((shudder)))
I was doing pretty good with my task until I came to a wicker basket
filled with random little knick knacks.
Random reminders of little hands
wandering around...
leaving
junk
scattered
in
their
wake.
I don't know whether or not I am ready for "the empty" nest
but I KNOW I am not ready to de-clutter
everything.
Not just yet.

Don't do it!!! Save them for the grandkids that are just around the corner! Everytime my kids outgrew their toys I would quickly "de-clutter" them and make room for the new. I have tons of nieces and nephews so I always felt happy to give them our gently used and loved Play-Skool houses, lego sets, toy kitchen, board games, etc. Well, I now have a toy room with only a playstation and tons of football video games...the last phase of my kids toys. My mother in law still has all of her kids favorite toys in a closet and it's so fun for them to show their children their memories from the past. Throw out the painted ceramic do-hickies but keep those priceless childhood memories. I wish I would have. But hey, that means I get to go toy shopping all over again for my grandkids. Want to join me?
Can I have the set of cards?
